2 - The Driving Technique Test
The Driving technique test is the second part of the three
part qualifying examination to gain entry onto the register.
It consists of an eye test in which you must be able to read
a motor car number plate at a distance of 27.5m (90'), with
letters and numbers 79.4mm high. As well as the Driving
Technique Test where a very high standard of competence is
required.
In this test the candidate is expected to drive in a
efficient manner along a range of routes in order to
demonstrate the ability to control a car safely.
In particular you must satisfy the examiner on all or any of
the following subjects:

Expert handling of the controls
• Use of correct road procedure
• Anticipation of the actions of other road users and the
taking of appropriate action
• Sound judgement of distance, speed and timing
• Consideration for the convenience and safety of
other road users.
The cost of this test is £62 and is approximately 1 hour
long.
After successfully passing Parts 1 and 2 you will need to
take 40 hours professional training. Once you have completed
the 40 hours your training establishment will obtain a
trainee license for you at the cost of £100. With this
license you are then able to work for the LOCAL School of
Motoring in order to gain the necessary experience in order
to pass Part 3 and earn at the same time.
